The full film list should be released on the 8th October 2009.
You can recieve a copy of the Film Festival Guide for free (according to a leaflet I have here) by emailing your home address to filmfestival@leeds.gov.uk with Subject FREE GUIDE.
Right now the only East asian film I can find listed is called Summer Wars, an animated Japanese film. IMDBANN
Also, if you would like the chance to win VIP tickets to the Opening Night of the festival, head along to Facebook and become a fan of LIFF by 14th October (do that here)
And we'll be sure to post all of the relevant films to the festival both here at the forum and on the main website as soon as they become available!
Expect word to follow shortly thereafter of who on the committee will be going to see what, should any of you fancy joining us.
Here's a list of live-action features from (and programmes of shorts which I know to include films from) East Asian countries (animation will be in a similar thread on the AnimeSoc forum, when I get around to it or someone does so before me, and Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl will be in both as that's based on a comic).
I'm up for A Frozen Flower for sure (clicky here for another pretty still); anyone else? Crush and Blush I'd also rather like to see sometime, after finding myself loving PARK Chan-wook's I'm a Cyborg, but That's OK for more than just Rain and reading very good things about this as well and I, for another, wouldn't mind being transformed into a hideous, part-mechanical monster if that's what it took to bed SAITÔ Takumi but I'm not so sure I could sit through a feature-length "gore film" just for the sound and sight of him (from what I've seen in the released stills and trailers the ganguro are by far the most disturbing aspect but I haven't ruled out the possibly of more extreme stuff only appearing in the film itself). I was excited about Love Exposure but not now that it's being shown from Digital Betacam, meaning that it will be no higher resolution than DVD-Video and possibly even interlaced as well; combined with having to sit down for all four or so hours of the thing it's just not worth it (not when there's a UK DVD release confirmed for January 2010).
Right, i've gone through the list and I think I know what i'm going to watch and when.
Fr/06/10/2009 18:00 First Squad
Su/08/11/2009 20:00 Departures
Mo/09/11/2009 18:30 The Underdog Knight
We/11/11/2009 20:30 My Girlfriend is a Agent
Fr/20/11/2009 16:00 Summer Wars
Other films such as some of those in the Night of the Dead screening look equally good but still undecided if I should go watch them...
I've only remembered that The Underdog Knight is showing tonight and tomorrow afternoon. Too late to send an email round to rally some support? I leave it to you, Jason, as I see you're definitely going tonight.
